Drachen-Propangas GmbH has been operating more than 30 of its own tank cars for decades to supply its liquid gas storage facilities in Germany. For many years, these tank cars have been maintained, inspected, and repaired, if necessary, by Franz Kaminski Waggonbau GmbH, 31785 Hameln, among others.
In 2019, we were approached by Kaminski to see if we could equip approximately 30% of the ring locomotive shed used for tank car repairs with liquid gas. Dark radiators from Mark with a connected load of approximately 300 kW were installed here. To supply these dark radiators, we installed a 2.9 t liquefied gas tank, stored above ground with a downstream 32 kg evaporator. With commissioning in November 2019, Kaminski employees are now warm even on cold days and can successfully carry out their work, including on our tank cars.
This initiative enabled us to successfully assist Kaminski, as the existing natural gas connection, which already heats 30% of the Ringlokhalle, was insufficient to supply additional dark radiators with the necessary energy. We have already delivered nearly 20 tons of propane here over the winter of 2019/2020. There are also plans to equip the remaining third of the Ringlokhalle with dark radiators supplied with liquid gas. According to the statistics cited, this will lead to an increase in propane production.
